Nothing happened. That's weird. All four markers should work normally on that quest and you don't need to read anything for make them appear at those locations for sure. Did the quest 3 days ago and I remember well. Check the LTTA article on the UESP, maybe it's a glitch reported on "bugs" section, at the bottom.
